Introduction to SpringCharts Tutorials
Purpose
The purpose of SpringCharts Tutorials is to provide
detailed instruction in the use of the many functions and features of
SpringCharts. Upon completion of the Tutorials, the user will
be prepared to set up and use SpringCharts in their practice.
This instruction is not intended to be for
installation of SpringCharts. Installation of
SpringCharts is covered in the documentation shown
below.
Conventions
SpringCharts Tutorials use Bold Italics
to indicate a specific product, component, feature, menu item, or action
item in SpringCharts or related products such as NDC
Medical Connect.
The term "select" means "click" if one is using a
mouse, and "tap" if one is using a Tablet PC.
Some screen shots may look different than you see
with your system. There are several possible reasons:
-
SpringCharts reformats the screen
to adapt between desktop and portable screens in landscape (wide)
mode and the Tablet PC in portrait (tall) mode,
-
Some screen shots have been resized to fit into
the Tutorial window or to improve performance,
-
User Preferences might be set
differently than with your computer, or
-
The Tutorial keys off of the Single
Computer Version of SpringCharts, which has
the Administration menu on the client Main Window,
while the Administer window is on the server in
SpringCharts Networked Version.
Screen Shots
The Tutorials make liberal use of screen shots to
enhance the effectiveness of the instruction. SpringCharts
is written totally in Java, and runs on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms
in any combination. Screen shots used in a Tutorial may be either
Mac or Windows screen shots. The content and functionality of the
screen shots are the same for all platforms even though there are minor
variations in the look and feel of the windows and dialog boxes.
Note: A number of the screen
shots used in this tutorial are low resolution to allow the overall tutorial page, including navigation areas,
to fit within a 1024x768 computer pixel monitor.
Tips for the Student
 | The functions of SpringCharts are highly
integrated, allowing the user to do what they want, when they want
to do it. That is, it is very easy to jump around in
SpringCharts. And, it will be reasonably easy to jump
around in these Tutorials. However, it is recommended that the
student resist the temptation to jump around too much. We have
tried very hard to present the material in an orderly sequence. |
 | However, it does make sense for a student to skip sections that
are of no interest to them. For example, the billing sections
may be of no interest to some students, and Templates may be of no
interest to others. |
 | For someone who likes to see the big picture before diving into
specific instruction, it might be useful to take the
SpringCharts Version 8 Tour on our website. The Tour
is a series of screenshots that provides an overview of
SpringCharts
in about 30 minutes. Students with little exposure to
SpringCharts should go to the full overview tour at
V8 Full Tour.
Those with experience using SpringCharts Version 7 or earlier should
review the tour of new features at V8
New Tour. |
 | Some people are not comfortable with self-paced training.
For them we offer a number of other training options, as noted
below. |
Training
Spring Medical Systems offers a wide
variety of training in addition to these Tutorials:

Doctors' Experience with the Tutorials
When asked how he learned to use SpringCharts,
Dr. Russell DeGroote made the following comments:
|
"If an EMR is not plug and play, it
won't work for any doctor. I used the SpringCharts
Demo to
evaluate and learn SpringCharts and then compare it against
about 20 other EMRs. Once I selected SpringCharts, I took
the Tutorials. All I needed was the Tutorials and an easy
to use EMR."
