Dr. Kaye and his two partners practice in Gainesville,
Florida as the Haile Medical Group. Two of the doctors
practice Family Medicine and one practices Internal Medicine.
They have a support staff of 12 people.
Dr. Kaye has used Macs for some time and has had a Mac
network for three years. He has limited Windows experience.
The practice has a 15 client network, made up of 12 Mac
desktop computers, 3 Mac laptops, 2 Tablet PC's running
Windows XP Tablet Edition and a server. At times the SpringCharts
Server runs on a Mac and at other times it runs on a Windows
machine.
Half of the clients are connected by LAN cables and half
are wireless.
"The primary things that attracted us to SpringCharts
were ease of use and the ability to support the Mac and
Windows platforms simultaneously. The system is particularly
user-friendly.
"SpringCharts offers huge cost and confidence savings.
We don't need to pay for support and we know we can quickly
address most issues ourselves. Other software programs
claim these benefits, but do not offer SpringCharts' intuitive
user interface, and overall elegance.
"Within 10 days of purchasing the system,
we went live and saw 60 patients in one day.
Templates and PopUp Text allow us to do
routine visits with virtually no typing."
"If a doctor has a running network,
SpringCharts is very easy to install and use. We were
up and running almost immediately. The software is very
easy to install; one needs only to follow a few easy steps.
We spent about a week learning the system and adapting
the PopUp text and Templates to our needs. Within 10 days
of purchasing the system we went live and saw 60 patients
in one day without incident.
"Our Templates and the PopUp text
and allow us to do routine visits like reviews of systems
and physicals with virtually no typing. Yet the flexibility
of SpringCharts also allows the entry of specific detailed
notes for more subjective encounters.
"When asked what he liked best about
SpringCharts, Dr. Kaye said he liked the ease of installation
and the intuitive way SpringCharts handles workflow. He
added the system is very rich in function, saying "When
I think a feature is missing, I will just look around
and often I will find it.
"One of the most refreshing things
about SpringCharts is the support team's ability and desire
to quickly solve problems. We were on an aggressive plan
to go live on a certain date, with nurses busily entering
data for our cutover. The Spring Medical team did their
part by providing an over-night fix, adapting their system
for some Apple support shortcomings. Spring Medical Systems'
responsiveness was critical to keeping morale high with
my team as missing our cutover date would have been a
big disappointment to all.
"Finally, the return on investment
for SpringCharts is exceptional for us. We historically
have spent $3,000 per month on transcription costs. We
expect the monthly cost for transcriptions to be a few
hundred dollars as we go forward. "In the end, we were live in a week and a half following
our purchase of SpringCharts. And, we were doing all major
EMR functions, charting those 60 patients, ordering labs,
sending intra-office messages, and importing images.
"An installation of this speed is
unheard of for any EMR. Normally full function EMR installations
take three to four months for a practice our size."
